Fisher & Paykel involvement in healthcare started in the late 1960’s when we sought involvement in a business that could benefit from our growing manufacturing and electronic expertise. A prototype respiratory humidifier, developed in New Zealand for use with patients in hospital intensive care situations, was taken to the production stage by Fisher & Paykel. The original prototype was an Agee preserving jar which evolved into a product that is saving lives around the world. The respiratory humidifier is considered a superb example of Kiwi Ingenuity!
In November 2001, as part of a re-organisation, Fisher & Paykel Industries was renamed Fisher & Paykel Healthcare Corporation Limited and a new company, Fisher & Paykel Appliances Holdings Limited, was established to own the Fisher & Paykel appliance and finance businesses. In connection with the re-organisation, Fisher & Paykel Healthcare listed on the New Zealand Stock Exchange and the Australian Stock Exchange.
